A Peaceful Retreat at Shippon
Tucked away in a private Cornish paddock, The Yurt at Shippon is a warm and welcoming place to slow down and step away from everyday life.Inside, you’ll find a lovely double bed, a wood-burning stove, comfortable seating and everything you need to settle in. During the cooler months, the yurt is lined with sheep’s-wool insulation, making it wonderfully cosy when the weather turns.This is somewhere to breathe, rest, read, explore, or simply do very little at all.
A Yurt With a Difference
This is not camping.The yurt is a beautifully made 18-foot space with hardwood doors, an insulated floor, a proper bed and carefully chosen furnishings.The wood burner sits on a very special hearth made from petrified wood, around 220 million years old, and during autumn and winter the sheep’s-wool insulation transforms the yurt into an incredibly snug little hideaway.In the warmer months, the insulation is removed and the yurt becomes lighter and airier, with additional cooling available when needed.
Your Own Private Facilities
Your private kitchen, shower room and toilet are around 45 metres from the yurt, in a separate section of the Castle Rocks Cornwall building, which is my shop and workspace.The facilities have their own private entrance and are entirely for your use during your stay.The kitchen is equipped for simple cooking, with an air fryer, microwave, sandwich toaster, toaster, kettle, fridge and coffee-making facilities.Because this is also a working building, you may occasionally hear normal daytime activity from the shop next door, but there is no shared access between the two areas.
Cornwall on Your Doorstep
The Yurt at Shippon is a lovely base for exploring this part of Cornwall.The north coast is only around seven miles away, with beaches including Watergate Bay, Mawgan Porth, Porth, Fistral and Crantock all within easy reach.You’re also well placed for woodland walks, historic villages, ancient monuments, gardens, coast paths and some of Cornwall’s most beautiful countryside.You can fill your days completely, or barely leave the paddock. Both are equally acceptable.
Ancient Cornwall
This part of Cornwall is steeped in history.Nearby you’ll find Castle an Dinas, an Iron Age hillfort with sweeping views and centuries of legend attached to it, along with Roche Rock and its dramatic medieval chapel ruins.There are standing stones, stone circles, holy wells and prehistoric sites scattered across the landscape too.If you like places that feel old, atmospheric and slightly mysterious, you won’t have to travel far.
Slow Mornings, Quiet Evenings
There’s something particularly lovely about the pace of life here.Start the day slowly with coffee in the yurt, wander across to the kitchen for breakfast, then decide whether you’re heading for the coast, exploring somewhere ancient or staying exactly where you are.In the evening, light the wood burner, sit outside by the fire pit, look up at the stars and let the day wind down properly.No pressure. No timetable. No need to be anywhere else.

The Yurt at Shippon is my first venture into hosting, and I’ve put a huge amount of care into creating it.I’m nearby throughout your stay, so if something is missing, you’re unsure how something works or you simply need help, just ask.I genuinely want you to leave feeling rested, looked after and very glad you came.The yurt is also used, when it isn’t welcoming guests, as part of The Phoenix Centre Cornwall, a restorative space being developed for people affected by cancer.Your stay helps me continue building that project too.
